Balancing economics with quality is essential for Jersey airport, as the airport services a small community. To become more energy effective, the airport decided to upgrade the illumination of its aprons. With the existing masts still in good condition, new AAA-LUX LED luminaires were fitted.
Good quality illumination is essential in every sport, but particularly in contact sports like rugby. Ipswich Rangers Rugby Union Club has the ambition to be competitive in every league and age category. Nevertheless, the well- being of their members is paramount, hence the decision to invest in LED floodlights from AAA-LUX.
Although last year having to make one step one to Serie B, how SPAL managed to climb from Serie D to Serie A, was an amazing journey. And AAA-LUX was part of that.
When in 2014 SPAL was promoted to Serie C, the Ferrara Commune invested in a new LED lighting system. It was the first time LED was used in a Italian professional stadium. In the first season in Serie C, SPAL played under 80 LED luminaires using mounted in the existing 30 meter masts. This was possible thanks to the low weight and windage of the AAA-LUX luminaires. Also the existing power supply could be re-used. Due to the absence of inrush current in the AAA-LUX driver, more light could be produced from the same power source. This enabled the Ferrara Commune to upgrade the lighting system with a relatively low investment.
Within three years SPAL was promoted two times more to be re-united with Serie A. Both times AAA-LUX increase the lighting level, the last time using four 45 meter masts holding 50 luminaires each. It lead to an impressive sight of the beautifully renovated Stadio Paolo Mazza stadium, near the historic center of the Ferrara. Additionally some luminaires were place on the roof edge of the old and new stands to comply with the highest Italian lighting requirements.
The vertical lighting levels from the camera (main stand) is 1.650lx with a uniformity. From the other three sides the vertical levels are approx. 1.250lx, all with high uniformity. With the horizontal levels close to well over 2.000lx the stadium is not only suitable for Italian Serie A, but even Champions league football. The quality got noticed in the offices of Serie A technical management, as one of the best.
SPAL plays it game now in Serie B. There is no doubt they will come back to Serie A once more, the stadium facilities are more than ready.
Italian sports lighting specialist Marco Calo: “AAA-LUX Italy can guide professional clubs with an upgrade to LED lighting. LED developed fast in recent years which means we could do the same thing now with less luminaires. Also there are more interesting control features available like show lighting and energy saving option to use the lighting levels of Serie A but the energy bill of Serie D.
Besides in Europe and abroad we do a lot of training accommodations. AAA-LUX has realized well over 3.000 projects since 2010”.
The offloading of fish trawlers arriving at Seaport IJmuiden places much pressure on port workers involved. Transhipment needs to take place at rapid speed to ensure the fresh produce arrives timeously in the shops. Working in stressful environments at night can easily lead to fatigue and resulting in accidents. Seaport IJmuiden selected AAA-LUX LED floodlights, thereby improving employees’ safety and increasing their comfort.

Professional and amateur players can continue to practice and play at the same time
Floodlights at the stadium of Belgian football club Hoogstraten FC had to be reviewed following the promotion to the Second Division. The Belgian FA demanded higher lux levels but Hoogstraten FC didn’t have sufficient funds to install additional energy generating capacity. The investment in high-power LED floodlights from AAA-LUX avoided the need for serious investments and prevented the club from being handed a penalty.
Last summer FC Helsingor earned promotion to the highest Danish football league, the Alka Superliga. With the new stadium not being finished yet it became clear that the old stadium needed some serious upgrades to be able to comply to the regulations and specifications of the Danish Football Association. One of the biggest challenges they face; a complete new lighting system.
Normally the whole proces, from concept to an up and running lighting system, can take up to 12 months. So what do you do if you only have like 10% of that time.
AAA-LUX is specialized in stadium LED lighting. Thanks to the narrow beam WS-STAD luminaires, 360 degree vertical uniformity can be achieved from any location. So the 4 masts solution for Helsingor was no problem for the powerfull LED WS-series that AAA-LUX has already been using in around 1.000 – mostly sports – projects worldwide.
A case like this is right up the alley of the new production facility in Eindhoven, which allows AAA-LUX to have a large and efficient production output. It was perfect timing for Helsingor when a full container of LED luminaires was delivered at the old stadium, about 2 weeks before FC Helsingors first official Superliga match.
Partners Betterlight, Green Industry and Dutch installation company Vrolijk & Overgaauw B.V. did an amazing job, placing 4 new masts with new foundations, installing 88 luminaires and finishing the project 2 days before the first match. The result was the first Scandinavian stadium with a green footprint, a 1.000 lux lighting installation with high uniformity and color rendering for HD TV broadcasting.
„After the first couple of matches, the light has received a warm welcome” Thomas Bertram of Better Light explains. “Especially the TV stations have talked in real positive terms about the consinstency in the light, flicker free and overall light quality. So in 4 weeks we built a setup that delivers on all points, from TV company requirements to The Danish Football Association’s (DBU) requirements, and FC Helsingør now has a stadium that also is the perfect training field for the Danish National Team.“
Initially wireless controls are used to select the lighting scenes for televised or non-televised games or for full or half field training at a lower lighting levels. When moving the lighting system to the new stadium in 2018, the luminaires could be equiped with cabled controls for show lighting.
