Extreme Climate differences

Suitable for extreme climate differences

The photo clearly shows which requirements LED luminaire must be able to meet. From a soccer field in a cold fjord in Norway, about 4 hours north of Bergen, to a beach of Townsville, not far from the Great Barrier Reef in the subtropical climate of Northeast Australia. This image shows why luminaires have to withstand extreme differences in weather conditions, in cold, heat, salt water, strong wind, snow and rain. And yes, it is the same luminaire.

More than 1000 projects installed in 38 countries

In 2009 AAA-LUX was the first manufacturer to market LED luminaires to retrofit 2kW conventional floorlights. The first projects were carried out in Eindhoven, close to the factory. In the meantime more than 1.000 projects have been carried out in 38 countries, spread over 5 continents around the world.

Quality system

Our products need to meet all requirements and must be able to deliver light in all circumstances. So quality is key. Therefore, in the past 9 years, a sound quality system has been put in place, based on surface treatment, water tightness, heat dissipation and electrical management.

Only when green light is given on all aspects, the luminaires are allowed to leave the factory. Making their way to areas with coastal, ski, humid, subtropical or arid climates.

New generation control system

AAA-LUX introduces a new generation control system that is capable of monitoring and reporting technical status in order to react preventively, whenever and wherever needed.

Lighting solution for cycle and athletics track

Porthmouths‘ premier sporting facility, under LED light

The Mountbatten Leisure centre is set in a park adjacent to the shore at the northern end of Portsmouth. This particular centre is known to be the city’s premier sporting facility and has hosted many national and international sporting events. A major redevelopment of the centre took place recently and includes many new amenities such as a 50m pool, 150-station fitness suite and an eight lane athletics track and a cycle track. The cycle and athletics track was in need of a lighting solution which suited both of these sporting activities and could accommodate the differing lighting levels. The picture shows a dimmed training level of the athletics track only.

AAA-LUX partner Abacus were enlisted to provide a top class sports lighting system for the leisure centre, to facilitate the cycle and athletics track. The most cost effective LED solution to achieve this particular specification were the AAA-LUX WS-Series LED floodlights. 45 floodlights were installed in total, with differing numbers covering 9, 18 metre masts and 3, 12 metre masts depending on desired lighting levels.

Substantial energy savings

AAA-LUX‘ high performance WS-series LED floodlights are specifically designed for sports lighting applications. This provides a more flexible user control with the AAA-LUX control management system. Instant startup allows the floodlighting to be turned on and off as and when required which reduces power consumption from wasted light, and flexible dimming down to 10% for low use and security gives substantial energy savings over traditional HID lamps. This consequently benefits the leisure centre as cost is kept to a minimum. The track also required different lighting levels when hosting athletics to when it hosts cycling activities, so the instant start up allows staff to change the lighting levels to suit each sporting activity exactly when needed. This subsequently maximises energy savings between use of the track when there is little downtime between activities.

Fully functional

The cycle and athletics track is now fully functional once more thanks to the AAA-LUX sports floodlighting. Cyclists, runners and athletes are now taking full advantage of the track under the new LED floodlighting, which provide a safe environment to enjoy a wide range of sporting activities.

End result : deliver your promise

For Kirit Panchal, head of business for Abacus Lighting in Dubai, it was clear that although the customer initially was a bit sceptical he was extremely pleased with the end result. “I could see how pleased he felt seeing AAA-LUX LED light in operation and knowing that his own team will no longer have to depend on any outside agencies for operation and maintenance of the floodlighting system. When your solution is able to deliver your promise, not only your customers are happy but it also gives you tremendous encouragement to do more. The quality of light delivered by AAA-LUX LED Sports Floodlights is quite impressive and pleasing to eyes. The customer said, our products and solutions are ‚better than the best‘ (his perceived best). Customer experience is not a project or a thing, but a living and growing relationship”.

We couldn’t agree more.

First sportfield LED lighting in Portugal

First sportfield LED lighting in Portugal

Supporting children’s football dreams

During the State Visit of the Dutch King and Queen to the President of the Portuguese Republica, Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa, Oktober 2017 in Lisbon, the first LED lighted football accomodation was put in the spotlight. The AAA-LUX LED luminaire project beautifully connected Dutch and Portuguees entrepeneurship with the sustainable energy, which was the theme of the Dutch Portuguees trade mission, in the wake of the state visit.

High quality facilities for hundreds of children

At the football club União Recreativa e Desportiva de Tires in the beautiful village of Cascais, hundreds of children make use of the facilities, one day hoping to becoming a famous player. It explains the need for high quality facilities such as artificial fields and high quality lighting.

Creating a green flagship

For many years durability is highly valuated in Portugal. Being able to apply this to the countries main sports, can give an extra boost to Portugals image as one of the green flagships of the European sustainable policy. The two LED lighted fields of Tires, are expected to save at least 70% energy,  compared to conventional lighting. At full power the savings are about 40 to 50%. With the use of wireless controls it is possible to dim down the levels from Class II to training level, leading to an additional 30% reduction of energy use.

Esergy Consulting made it possible

Partner Esergy Consulting  made it possible to re-use the existing mast structures so the cost would be as low as possible. It is an important feature of AAA-LUX lighting to keep the financial hurdle at a minimum and as a result keeping LED sports field lighting within reach of more clubs. The AAA-LUX luminaires are designed in such a way that in most cases existing technical infrastructure can be used. Luminaires are light weight and quite small, which is unique in LED flood lighting.

Club manager overwhelmed

Club manager Jose Carlos Brunheta is delighted with the new LED lighting. “After seeing pictures and hearing stories the choice for LED was clear. The financial and durablility contribution of the city made it possible”, Brunheta says. “But it was still overwhelming when the light is turned on for the first time”.

Before the club was never spoilt with good lighting, to say the least. Making the step to EN Class II lighting was a huge leap forward for the club. Brunheta: “What I like about Esergy Lighting, who supported us extremely well, is that they like to do more than the requirements prescribe. Class II requires 0,6 uniformity, with AAA-LUX they aimed for at least 0,7. We wanted to have a unique upgraded accomodation and we are happy and proud we succeeded.”

FC Mels invests in the future

Swiss football club FC Mels has invested in its future by having AAA-LUX LED luminaires installed. The club currently plays in the Swiss 2nd Division however, the technology is capable to provide an illumination quality required in the 1st Division. If needs be, the AAA-LUX technology can also easily be upgraded to meet Super League standards.

The investment in AAA-LUX LED technology makes FC Mels the first football club in the Eastern section of Switzerland to adopt the AAA-LUX technology. The luminaires were installed by AAA-LUX Switzerland. ‘These luminaires provide light that is much brighter than I had anticipated,’ FC Mels president Andreas Scherrer admits. ‘It is like it is the middle of the day,’ he remarks while attending a training session at night.

FC Mels replaces US Arbedo as the football club with the brightest illumination in Switzerland. In 2016 US Arbedo became the first Swiss football club to invest in LED technology. They also chose AAA-LUX LED technology.

As FC Mels has experienced a significant growth over the past two decades, the floodlights will also help scheduling all activities more effectively. ‘The new floodlights are a major step forward,’ Scherrer points out. ‘We are no longer restricted in terms of training sessions or kick-off times for our main team.’

FC Mels is in good company. Many tennis clubs in Switzerland also make use of AAA-LUX LED technology. AAA-LUX is even partner of Swiss Tennis. Don’t be surprised when you’ll see FC Mels soon competing in the highest league. Virtually any club that invested in AAA-LUX LED technology has experienced a boost.

Stena Line selects AAA-LUX

The results of a pilot project which started in 2016 at the terminal of Stena Line Hoek van Holland have been well-received by the ferry company. Therefor the Stena Line management has now decided to illuminate the entire terminal, as well as the terminal at Europoort, with AAA-LUX LED technology.

Stena Line is one of Europe’s biggest ferry companies. Their 35 ships service 18 ferry routes in Scandinavia, the Irish Sea and the North Sea.

Their terminal in Hoek van Holland is very important to the company as it is the only Stena Line terminal that receives ships, cargo and passengers for multiple destinations.

AAA-LUX partner AN Techniek from Ridderkerk will take on the task to install the Stena Line Hoek van Holland terminal and the Stena Line Europoort terminal with AAA-LUX technology. The company is an important partner for AAA-LUX as they were vital in previous installations. Several years ago, AN Techniek successfully installed AAA-LUX LED technology at the terminal of P&O in the port of Rotterdam too.

AN Techniek will use various luminaires from the AL-Series to illuminate the terminals. These luminaires provide illumination in a 60, 90, 180 or 360 degree circle. The luminaires can be connected to a smart lighting control and management system that will allow for dimming the luminaires or connecting the luminaires to sensors. Companies that use smart technology will benefit from additional savings in energy cost as the terminal will only be lit when it is being used.

With the Stena Line Hoek van Holland terminal and the Stena Line Europoort terminal also moving to AAA-LUX LED technology, a growing number of logistical hubs makes use of this technology. The all-important Maasvlakte II railway marshalling yard at the Port of Rotterdam has already been using AAA-LUX technology since 2013.

Other ports where AAA-LUX LED technology is used include areas at the Port of Ijmuiden, the Port of Amsterdam, the Port of Southampton (UK), the Port of Aarhus (Denmark), the Port of Ravenna (Italy), the Port of Beira (Mozambique) as well as ports at Aruba, New Zealand and the Solomon Islands.

SPAL is ready for the UEFA Champions League!

Light produced by the new AAA-LUX floodlights for Italian Serie A football club SPAL has been approved by the Italian football federation. The approval is a significant achievement as AAA-LUX has managed to produce HD quality illumination with only 200 luminaires fitted on four masts.

Light produced from luminaires fitted on a mast, bridge a much longer distance compared to light produced by a luminaire fitted underneath the stadium canopy. As few companies have the knowledge and quality luminaires to have this achieved, most producers prefer installing underneath the canopy. This is less demanding on the quality of their luminaires.

The club and AAA-LUX teamed up in 2013 when the SPAL made it into the Lega Pro. As all matches in this league are being televised in HD, SPAL was forced to improve the illumination quality at its stadium. AAA-LUX took on the challenge with the AAA-LUX WS-STAD luminaires, a LED luminaire developed specifically for use in stadium environments. The intensity and ability of directing the light-beam makes this luminaire very suitable for venues that require the best possible LED illumination of the highest standard.

The new floodlights were a big help to SPAL as they became champion in 2016. A year later, SPAL lifted the trophy again when they were crowned champion in the Italian Serie B.

This season SPAL is playing the Serie A, the highest league in the Italian domestic competition and probably one of the most demanding leagues in the world. The club is currently sitting comfortably mid-table.

The home ground of SPAL is now also compliant with EUFA regulations Level A. Should SPAL continue its fairy-tale journey in the Italian football league by becoming champion again, they now know for sure they will also be allowed to play their Champions League matches at home.

Thanks to the upgraded floodlights at their home venue SPAL will be a force to reckon with when they play at home.

AAA-LUX puts new spark in claim

The official opening of the new factory of AAA-LUX has put a new spark into the claim that Eindhoven city is the cradle of modern illumination. AAA-LUX is the first illumination specialist to make significant investments in the city in many years.
The new AAA-LUX factory was opened this weekend. Partners, suppliers and family members were given an opportunity to visit the new laboratories, R&D (product innovation) offices and production line during the two-day event.

The opening comes hot on the heels of several other significant developments at AAA-LUX. The company is now also ISO compliant.

‘In this new building everything comes together,’ AAA-LUX CEO Erik Swennen says. ‘It couldn’t have come at a better moment as the market for LED floodlights is starting to mature. With LED technology being more and more accepted internationally, it is good to know that the quality of our systems and procedures are now officially endorsed by ISO. We now have the facility and ability to live up our claim of providing the best LED floodlights available as well as having the capacity to deliver the volume requested.’

In his speech Swennen pointed out that the new location at Fijenhof 4 in Eindhoven, has the capacity to keep trend with the growing demand for AAA-LUX technology. ‘Over the past 3 years we have been experiencing a year-on-year growth that was significantly higher than we initially had projected. Our sales this year will already exceed what we had anticipated for.’ Swennen foresees that AAA-LUX will expand its production capacity significantly within the next two years to ensure it can continue answering all calls for new products and luminaires.

The official opening of the new AAA-LUX factory has put another spark in the saying that Eindhoven is the cradle of modern illumination!

Only 4 masts required to provide sufficient illumination

Four masts with 4 luminaires each is all AAA-LUX Germany needed to illuminate the new multi-purpose artificial grass field at TSC Eintracht Dortmund according to spec. The field will accommodate hockey and lacrosse.

The latest generation AAA-LUX LED luminaires have become that sophisticated that, compared to conventional luminaires, fewer LED luminaires are required to illuminate a full-size hockey field. ‘This is the fruit of the teaming of its R&D, Sales and Production departments. Since the start of the year all AAA-LUX departments have been brought together in a new facility,’ Udo Kempf of AAA-LUX Germany explains. ‘By bringing all bright minds together we have managed to take another giant leap forward. The light intensity and quality the AAA-LUX LED luminaire produce have become of such nature that we can reduce the number of luminaires required without affecting the light required.’ AAA-LUX LED luminaires are now also ISO certified.

Apart from LED luminaires, TSC Eintracht Dortmund also invested in the AAA-LUX light control and management system. ‘They can decide to illuminate the field at 100%, 60% or 40% capacity. The only difference that will be noticed is the reduction in energy consumption when the intensity is reduced. Players and spectators won’t notice anything as the uniformity will remain the same,’ Kempf adds.

Being able to reduce its energy consumption was one of the main reasons TSC Eintracht Dortmund decided to select AAA-LUX LED luminaires. ‘The club is very, very environmental conscious. By selecting AAA-LUX LED technology with dimming capacity, members of club feel that they have selected an illumination solution that will complement the environmental conscious decision they made with the field. The playing surface hardly requires water to produce good playing conditions.’

The new surface and water harvesting system will safe the club over 7.000m3 potable water per annum.

‘And the AAA-LUX LED luminaire will save the equivalent of energy that would be used to illuminate up to 20 kilometers of highway,’ Kempf concludes.
